Extract from Miami: An Open Invitation.
The Standard is the sole hotel on the mostly residential Belle Isle. Its original incarnation as the Lido Spa Hotel, a hangout for retirees and widows designed by Morris Lapidus, is ever-present in the beautiful signage out front, and in famed hotelier Andre Balazs’ decision to retain so many original elements. Scandinavian mid-century design features heavily in the hotel’s pristine lobby, indoor restaurant and bar. Once outside, take the hedge-lined footpath to the deck overlooking Biscayne Bay, where you can eat and drink with unobstructed views of the sunset.
