It was the week before midsummer that we went on our research trip for A Stockholm Interlude. The days were long, the nights warm, and we had as our base Hotel Stureplan. Just a few minutes walk from Stureplan station, its an elegant 19th-century building that feels calm and luxurious. Rooms vary from lofts to windowless, with appropriately varied tariffs. Just down the round is the excellent bookshop, Hedengrens (included in our guide), and in the other direction Humlegården, an attractive, substantial park that was shady and cool on our visit, although as winter approaches perhaps the nearby Park Cinema, a magnificent 1940s building would be a better place to shelter.
