Breathe easy

On the road

Important jobs are not always glamorous jobs. Take the humble breath mint, it eases ear-popping pain as your plane descends, masks sour breath caused by a doppio espresso, and what better way to strike up conversation with a stranger than offering so innocent an item?

We pick up mints as we go, and have learned that most have something to offer. Our current favourites go by the name of Swiss Navy, which is itself a conversation starter; it seems this landlocked country has water-based military forces to patrol its lakes. The grape flavour is a little disconcerting at first, but it soon becomes quite addictive. Packaged in a metal tin small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, with a little dispenser to prevent mints shaking loose, this is as handy and discreet a travelling companion as we know. As useful when exploring a city as up in the air.
