Garden Café, London

The clamour of the West End seems far away in Brown Hart Gardens, an elevated Italianate oasis set between two clusters of 1850s Peabody Trust buildings, a Ukranian church and at the western edge the new Beaumont Hotel – until recently a car rental garage. There are wooden planters filled with hardy foliage, benches, water features and the Garden Café itself, a modern, glass structure run by Benugo. If the weather turns there’s seating inside but while the summer lasts to sit outside, away from traffic and above street level is as close to tranquility as can be imagined in W1.
