For many, Ginza is just a shopping area, cluttered with global brands, but there’s much more to it than that with a notable number of design-related spots. As with Omotesando, Sunday is the best day to explore this area, when the streets are closed to traffic.
Go down Chuo Dori, on the left you’ll see a huge red paper clip, which is the sign of stationery shop Ito-Ya, stocked full of materials to write, draw and fold in incredible quantities and variety.
Keep walking and you’ll reach the Matsuya building. On the seventh floor there’s the pearl white Matsuya Department Store, with its Design Gallery stocked according to the tastes of a panel that vote on the year’s best designs.
